Manchester Square is an 18th century garden square in the Marylebone area in London, England. The beautiful garden square was named after the Duke of Manchester and was laid out in 1776. The single most distinguishing factor of the Manchester Series is the large oversized square case. Milled from solid 316L surgical grade stainless steel, the case is anatomically curved and befitted with a curved Krysterna crystal and curved screw down exhibition case-back as well. The case-back also hosts a Krysterna? crystal, is made from 316L steel, and has been decorated magnificently. In true artistic fashion, the case has become a work of art itself, with the polished convex bezel creating a beautiful step design and with decorative pins in the form of screw heads on the lugs. The solid end-piece on the strap makes for a look of complete integration. And while the Manchester case certainly is a work of art, the real work of art here is the complication presented in this masterpiece of a watch?.a dual time regulator! That?s right. A regulator with the hour and minute hands on separate axes, with one slight addition: A second hour hand for a second time zone on even another axis! The strap has been fully customized for the Manchester. Twenty-seven millimeters wide at the lugs and tapering down to twenty-two millimeters at the buckle, it is made from genuine calf skin and is comprised of two layers with the top layer being perforated. The finishing touch on the strap is the genuine Nubuck leather lining that feels so soft on your wrist. I was so excited when i discoverd the Sturhling brand. Swiss made, Swiss movements at low, low prices is what the promise is but oh, how the fantasy pales when confronted with the actual watches.
The automatic movements,if indeed they are Swiss, are of a very low calibre and cannot even begin to compare against even the most basic eta 2824. They are clearly cheap to make as when the back is off the workmanship can be seen to be of a poor quality with scratches on the balance wheel and misaligned screws.
The case is ok but not top notch. Same for the hands and dial. The style is good so it is a real pity the quality doesn't match up.
This watch is nowhere near worth the MSRO of $875 and is arguably not worth the massively reduced price either. I should have been susppicious immediately as how is it possible to offer such reductions. Clearly the MSRP is just made up to make the discount as large as possible.
I would recommend a brand like Christopher Ward of London or Debaufre for watch afficianados looking for proper watches at accessible prices.
Shame, I thought I was onto a winner but, as ever, if it looks too good to ber true....
