Watch description

About Stuhrling Original 107.334541 / 107334541:
If you are going to wear a mechanical timepiece why not show it off with a skeletonized dial for everyone to see? Every watch collector needs a skeleton watch in their collection, so Stuhrling Original came out with their Delphi to offer something straightforward, elegant and classic at a reasonable price. And not surprisingly the Delphi has become one of Stuhrling Originals all time best sellers and favorites among collectors! The movement is a 20-jewel mechanical automatic, a simple three hand movement with the crown at the two oclock position. The parts of the movement have been skeletonized and hand-engraved for extra panache. The textured dial on what remains of the off-center cut-out is vintage Stuhrling Original dial-work to the point that the beauty of the dial rivals the beauty of the movement which dominates this timepiece. The step-design round case (40mm) is constructed of solid 316L surgical stainless steel and has Krysterna crystals (front and back) and with its screw-in case back, is 50 meters water resistant. The watch is mounted on a genuine black leather strap with a lizard finish and a dual deployant clasp. The beauty and technical achievement of the Delphi far exceeds the price tag. Execution Rose Gold Plated Stainless Steel Case and Movement with Black Dial and Rose Gold Hands and Markers on a Black Leather Strap. Additional Features: This watch comes packaged in a Stuhrling Original watch box with a Stuhrling Original 2 year warranty card and instructions.

Looks great ... works poor
written by Guest , July 21, 2008

I got this as a gift for Christmas... love the look, but the watch gains an hour per day (this one is not an accurate timepiece). I realize that I may have a bad watch from the batch, but I find it odd that the parent company (Stuhrling) offers an extra year of warrenty if one sends in "positive" feedback to amazon. This may boost overall ratings on Amazon so buyer beware. Why not stand by your product and offer the extra year up front?

I have been in e-mail correspondance with the parent company and will be sending it back for a return. Once this transaction has been completed I will revise this review and let readers know how it went.

UPDATE: The watch was returned in fine working order. Stuhrling paid for the shipping and I am quite pleased with the product. The computer will not let me re-rate the product, but thus far increase to 4-5 stars.

I bought this mechanical watch after my watch battery died on me while on a job interview trip out-of-state.

Beauty is, of course, in the eye of the beholder (of course I like how it looks), but I can say that this is a fine time piece for everyday use. So far, it's been fairly accurate and the automatic movement rewinds completely during my normal daily activities. I have yet to wind it by hand.

It used to be that people with digital watches were at the center of attention. Now, teaching at a high school, kids are fascinated by the mechanical movement the inner workings of which can be observed through the face.

As I am not a collector, I cannot say anything about its value as a collectible.

just one problem
written by Guest , July 21, 2008

this is a great watch, well built nice detailing.i also really like the mechanical movement thus avoiding replacing batteries. the only problem is that the hands are the same color as the background making it very difficult to see them especially in low light.

Exactly what I was looking for
written by Guest , September 29, 2008

What was I looking for? An aesthetically spectacular watch that conjures up images of olde industrial London or the Sherlocke Holmes era. The purely mechanical automatic movement (in other words, no battery- unlike those "kinetic" watches which are automatic insofar as a battery being charged). This watch is gorgeous and well-constructed. Looks very elegant and has a substantial feel to it.

In terms of movement, let me preface it by saying my friend's manual automatic Omega watch (costing over a thousand dollars) needs to be adjusted back 5 minutes after a week. Also, the famed Swiss mechanical watches can lose about 30 seconds a day.

The Stuhrling Delphi- like all mechanical watches- also needs to be adjusted after a while. Mine lost about 3 minutes after 2 days. It didn't seem to be a gradual loss, as I was monitoring it pretty closely hour by hour. I woke up 2 days later, checked the watch, and it was 3 minutes behind all at once.

This is the nature of all mechanical watches. They will not be as accurate as a quartz, battery powered watch. So, if you are realistic, and you don't mind adjusting the watch after a couple of days, this watch is well worth the price. One thing to keep in mind: those retail prices upwards of $600 are inflated, so base your purchase decision on the buy price, not retail. And, as I said, it is well worth it.

Good, solid watch...

I bought this watch more for the novelty component of owning a skeleton watch than anything. The styling really sets this one apart from my other watches. The view of the mechanicals from the backside of the watch is just as gorgeous as the front. It's almost a shame that you can't see the rear when you're wearing it!

Anyway, from a style perspective, it's a real head-turner. I've had to remove my watch many times to allow people to inspect it more closely. Beyond that, it's a good, solid, functional manual wind watch.
