Unfortunately for me this is not "the last watch I will ever need". I was tired of replacing batteries in my watches every year or so, mainly because of the hassle to get them replaced. I even stopped wearing watches altogether. I had a Rolex some time ago and was not impressed with it losing 5 minutes a day and the soft plastic crystal that would easily scratch.
I wanted a watch that was self winding so I bought this watch as a treat to myself.
As an unintended consequence I ALWAYS wore it, I was finally wearing a watch again after years without one. The look and feel just makes you want to put this watch on. It is heavy but that does not bother me, perhaps it's part of the allure. But after less than two years of use the self winding mechanism seems to have stopped working. If I take the watch off at 10:00pm and go to bed I see that it has stopped keeping time by about 4:00am. So now I have to set the time several hours ahead every day or if I remember to wind it before bed then it will still be running in the morning. I bought this watch to have less hassle not more hassle. The watch has run a little slow each day since new. It typically loses a few minutes a week. I'm ok with that as I don't expect a mechanical device to be perfect.
I receive a lot of compliments on the watch and it really is a beautiful piece, but I am bummed that Omega is telling me the repair will be up to $500.00 labor plus parts and take 3+ weeks for them to look at it once I ship it to the closest facility in L.A. I'm wondering if I'll just go back to not wearing a watch...
